Great flavors but you have to get there at a decent time because there will be a line that extends halfway to the road. No restrooms

Great ice cream, generous portions, great service, very friendly people, frozen yogurt, chocolate & vanilla&cherrydoft serve. Lots of hard serve flavors. Nice sandwich selection. Plenty of parking. Line moves quickly. Take credit cards. (October, 2018)Went today 7/20/2019 again. Line moved quickly. Still great soft serve. Portions still generous. Still my favorite ice cream place in the area.

We all ordered smalls. That is more than enough. The portions are huge...

The portions are massive for the price. I ordered a baby size ice cream cone and it was gigantic! I think all of there ice cream is homemade as well, which is a nice change from all the chain ice cream places that all carry Perry's. Brownie batter and orange creamsicle were our choices and they were so good. It was a nice treat on a hot summer day.

This place has the best ice cream in three states. I had heard rumors but wow. The menu is expansive three ice cream is awesome. Great vibe too. Can't wait to get back.

Boxcar Barney's hasn't seen better days! This ice cream/sandwich shop has undergone a wonderful transformation this season. The building has been cleaned up, the tables are all new, there are beautiful potted plants brightening up the space, they play modern music, and the menu has been revised. They offer more ice cream choices than I have ever seen offered at any ice cream shop I've ever visited and their portions are very generous (I would suggest ordering a baby size or a small, anything larger might be too much to finish). They have even added a space to play corn hole; I thought that was a clever addition. For anyone who hasn't eaten at Barney's before, I think you'll really enjoy the view of the lake while you eat right at Barney's, or it's just a short walk to the Lakeside Park across the street.

Delicious ice cream place close to Chautauqua Institution. Highly recommend the Heavenly Hazelnut and Salted Caramel flavors! Soooo tasty!

The ice cream was delicious, prices fair, and sizes BIG. The only downside was the time it took for the line to move.

Loved this place! They offer hard ice cream plus soft serve including frozen yogurt. Waffle cones were delicious. Portions were enormous. Everything was top quality and service was great!

There is a reason that the line is so long! LOVE the soft serve! The wait is insignificant compared to the amazing yumminess. The face-lift is wonderful too. Bring your friends and hang out for awhile! You won't regret it.

We where in Ripley New York for the day to see family. Was looking for the Icecream place that we found last time by chance in 2016. Couldn't find it again, but with a quick search we found this wonderful gem in the most Picturesque town.

Great ice cream! Good sizes and good prices. We were driving by a saw a line of people waiting for ice cream. That was a pretty good indicator it was a local favorite. We were not disappointed at all.

Baby cones are huge. Love coming with the family and splitting a flight. Friendly staff and yummy flavors. My favorite is cookie dough.

Biggest ice cream around!! We drive 20 minutes to go here. Love the revamp and that they take debit/credit now. Keep up the revamp it's looking great! Our favorite thing is to get ice cream and either go to the big playground across the street on the lake or walk the rails to trails trail that starts right behind boxcar's. It's well maintained and great for strollers and littles.

OMG! The variety of flavors this place has! Absolutely amazing! And the quality of the homemade ice cream? Delicious and wonderful! Just be warned, the serving sizes are huge, so if you are unsure of how much ice cream you'd like, go smaller. If you want ice cream by Chautauqua lake, this is DEFINITELY the place to go!!!

Probably the best strawberry ice cream I've ever had. Other flavors are great too.

The size of the portions of their ice cream is huge! Priced very reasonably as well. The lines can get long during peak times so plan accordingly and cut the staff some slack as they're working as hard as they can inside a small area to satisfy everyone's needs.

Went here while on vacation in the area and I was not disappointed. Friendly staff and quick service. Lots of delicious flavors to choose and including some fun ones. I had the 'baby' cone ($3.78) and that thing was massive so I can only imagine what larger sizes looked like, but this was perfect for me. I had the Moose Tracks and Brownie Batter and they were both amazing!If you're near chautauqua lake, I definitely recommend checking this place out.

Great ice cream and phenomenal customer service. We had a peanut allergy in our group and they went above and beyond to keep our flight safe for her to eat!

OMG took 3 of my grandsons, a small was HUGE. Not knowing ordered Medium for older boys, had to get cups 1/2 way into eating. WOW.
